The Kansas Forest Service is offering to buy back removed callery pear trees and replace them with other non-invasive trees.

Rising fuel costs are turning into trouble for area landscaping and tree-removal companies, like Wichita Tree Service. It's changing the way the business operates as the owner has had to pass up contracts and raise prices in order to stay afloat.

“I think we raised our prices maybe 30 percent or so, but really that kind of doesn’t even keep up with the cost of the equipment, the rising fuel costs and things like that,” the owner said.

🌳 Replace Your Callery Pear with a Native Tree!

If you remove a Callery pear from your property, you can receive a free native replacement tree at one of our May 2026 buyback events. This program applies to Callery pear (Pyrus calleryana) and its common cultivars, including ‘Bradford,’ ‘Cleveland Select,’ and ‘Aristocrat.’

⚠️ Important:
Before signing up, please read all event details carefully on the event page. Registration will open later this spring.

Here’s how it works:
✔ Remove your Callery pear (trees removed in 2025 or 2026 qualify)
✔ Provide proof of removal (photos of the tree before and the stump after, or an arborist invoice)
✔ Sign up for a free native replacement tree

🌱 Native species available include:
• Bur Oak
• Kentucky Coffeetree
• Eastern Redbud
• Serviceberry
• Sargent Crabapple

Please note:
This program does not pay for tree removals.
Work with a KAA or ISA-certified arborist if you need professional removal.
One replacement tree per household, and species are first-come, first-served.

We encourage landowners to remove Callery pear as soon as possible to help stop the spread of this invasive tree!

Starting the city of newton job today.

The City’s contractor, Wichita Tree Service, will begin tree trimming this week in the public right-of-way within Maintenance Area 2. Crews will start on the west side of Area 2, as highlighted in yellow on the attached map. Door hangers will be distributed today to properties in the affected area with additional information.

Work will progress east until the entire maintenance area is complete. Crews estimate the project will take approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

Although property owners are responsible for the street trees on their property, the City bids out tree trimming in one maintenance area per year to alleviate the burden for property owners. Street trees must be trimmed to keep limbs from scraping high-profile vehicles and to remove any hanging branches that could be dangerous.

When Robert started Wichita Tree Service, the vision was always about more than just trimming trees, it was about serving the community he called home. 🏠🌳

Whether we’re working on a residential backyard, a large commercial site, or partnering with the city on public contracts, our goal remains the same: to make Wichita a safer, more beautiful place for everyone.

Seeing the direct impact our work has on our neighborhoods is why we do what we do. We’re grateful for the trust you’ve placed in us!

Ever wonder what actually happens to all that debris once we pull away?

Most people assume it just becomes someone else’s problem, but we do things a bit differently. It all goes back to our private, county-zoned facility. We’re actually one of the only crews in the area that has the permits and the setup to handle green waste on this kind of scale ourselves.

It’s the "unseen" part of the job, but it’s why we’re able to offer a true full-service experience from start to finish.

Here's a birds eye view of what that process looks like!
