An unused bonus room, reimagined as a dedicated space for Mahjong! This project was all about bringing together color, texture, and personal touches to create a room that feels both playful and thoughtfully designed.

We started with a warm caramel grasscloth finish on the walls, adding rich texture while complementing the natural bamboo in the chairs. To bring the colors together, we refinished the homeowner’s existing black distressed cabinet in a softer pink, giving the piece a fresh look that feels right at home in the space.

Next up is a custom Mahjong table that became the perfect statement piece! It was finished in a vibrant hot pink grasscloth texture that mimics the look of fabric and complements the homeowner’s beloved zebra chairs. To complete the look, we carried that same hot pink onto the wooden chair frames, tying the entire table and chair set together.

From the walls to the furniture, every finish was chosen with the bigger picture in mind. The result is a one-of-a-kind Mahjong room filled with personality, warmth, and custom details that make it uniquely theirs.

My creative process is centered around collaboration and designed to bring your vision to life while ensuring the final result feels right for your space.

1. Inspiration – it all starts with inspiration. Maybe you've saved an image you love, noticed a finish that caught your eye, or simply want to bring more warmth, texture, or character into your home. This initial conversation is where we start exploring possibilities and discovering what inspires you, and for some, my existing samples provide all the inspiration needed!

2. Consultation – Next, we meet to get to know you, your space, and what you hope to achieve. We'll dive deeper by discussing your style, the feeling you want to create, and how the finished design should complement your home. This conversation provides the foundation for a finish that feels personal and thoughtfully considered.

3. Design Direction – With a clear understanding of your vision, we will determine how to bring it to life. This includes selecting the colors, textures, materials, and application techniques best suited to your space. Every detail is considered to ensure the finish feels cohesive with its surroundings and reflects the look we've discussed.

4. Application - With the finish approved, the artistry begins. Each layer is carefully applied by hand using specialized materials and techniques to build the desired color, texture, and dimension. This is where the vision takes shape through thoughtful craftsmanship and attention to detail.

5. Finished Space - The final result is a custom finish created specifically for your home. Every color, layer, and detail comes together to complement the surrounding space, creating a distinctive focal point that feels intentional, timeless, and uniquely yours.

From the first spark of inspiration to the final brushstroke, my goal is to make the process collaborative, personal, and rewarding. No two projects are exactly alike, and that's what makes each one so special.

One finish, three spaces. This custom finish was carried throughout three areas of this home: the powder bath, a feature wall in the primary bedroom, and a feature wall in the small bonus room just off the bedroom.

Built with four layers, three types of plaster, and five different colors, each step of this beautiful finish brings its own texture and color, creating depth and dimension that continues to reveal itself as you look closer.

The original concept was designed with a horizontal application, but when we turned the finish vertically, the texture took on an entirely different character. The homeowner loved how it began to mimic the natural look of tree bark, especially alongside an art piece she planned to incorporate into the space. I love when a finish evolves during the creative process and becomes something even more personal to the home.

ColorFaux Creations is honored to donate a custom mahjong table as a raffle prize for Simply Hygiene's "Mahj for a Cause" ladies' event this Friday, September 11th, at the Wichita Country Club. Miss Mahjong is also generously donating the coordinating mat and tile set. The table was specifically designed and refinished to complement the colors and details of the Miss Mahjong mat and tiles, bringing all of the pieces together beautifully.

Mahj for a Cause is sure to be a fabulous afternoon filled with food, drinks, Mahjong, prizes, raffles, friendship, and plenty of fun, all while supporting Simply Hygiene’s mission to provide diapers to families and individuals in need throughout our community. I am so grateful to be a small part of an event that brings women together for a meaningful cause and makes a positive difference right here at home.
