It's that time of the year where we see little barley often mistaken for foxtail grass🌱
While these two look similar, these w**ds are very different. Little barley is a winter annual that germinates in late September and overwinters. This plant thrives in cooler temperatures🥶, forms seed heads and usually dies off by July.
Foxtail, on the other hand, is a summer annual that thrives in hot weather☀️. Foxtail does not produce a seed head until mid-to late- summer.
Best control of little barley is to maintain a thick turfgrass or apply Dimension (dithiopyr) in August-Early September.
