The Cuyahoga Falls 6-12 Campus was designed for educational excellence by incorporating flexible learning spaces to enhance the student experience. Replacing an over one hundred-year-old school, the new 365,000 square foot building with a connected 4,000-seat athletics stadium and practice fields also includes a 1,400-seat performing arts center, black box theatre, media center, planetarium, cosmetology lab, multiple collaborative spaces, a two-level student dining area, and three gymnasiums.

"This campus represents a promise that our students will learn in a place designed for the world they are entering," said Superintendent Dr. Andrea Celico, Ph.D., Cuyahoga Falls City Schools.

The campus showcases innovative educational programming that maximizes customization for educators to teach the way they want. Whether they stay within the pods, move into the common areas, or allow students to venture into quiet collaborative spaces, there are endless possibilities for learning.

"We designed the building for success," said TDA Project Manager Scott Alleman, RA, NCARB. "Having flexibility in the classroom and other teaching environments allows for an evolving curriculum."

The $133 million campus project was made possible by the passage of a bond issue in 2019 and was co-funded by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC). ThenDesign Architecture partnered with Hammond Construction, Inc. to design and build the 365,000 SF building. The state-of-the-art facility provides students and faculty with new technology, expanded academic spaces, and opportunities for collaboration in a comfortable, secure environment.

A strategic communications plan is an essential function for every school district.

Having partnered with districts throughout Ohio to develop communication assets, our team is proud to be an active member of the Ohio School Public Relations Association (OHSPRA). At this year’s annual conference, we earned six awards, including a "Best of the Best" award for a social media campaign produced in collaboration with Cuyahoga Falls City Schools for their "Black Tiger Tours" video series.

We received four Marks of Distinction and a Mark of Excellence for professional video production, news writing, school PR marketing, and special purpose publications. This recognition reflects our commitment to elevating the work done by educators across Ohio.

OHSPRA is an important organization for School Public Relations professionals dedicated to district improvement. It provides essential professional development and resources necessary to strengthen the connection between schools and their communities.

The conference was a success. We look forward to continuing to support districts through communications that drive engagement and represent the incredible stories happening each day inside our schools.

We are proud to announce our partnership with Lake-Geauga Habitat for Humanity on their 100 Homes & Beyond Campaign. TDA is donating our architecture and communications services for the 100th home project of Lake and Geauga Counties.

TDA has a long history of being a "people first" architectural design firm and is also 100 % employee-owned. Our partnership with Lake-Geauga Habitat for Humanity is a natural fit, and we are excited to collaborate with them.

Habitat's 100 Homes & Beyond Campaign in Lake and Geauga Counties is designed to provide a home to families who would not otherwise have the opportunity for homeownership. Lake County resident, Juana, and her family were accepted into the program and have agreed to invest 200 "sweat equity hours" by assisting in the construction process, volunteering at Habitat’s ReStore, helping with Habitat events, and taking financial management courses. She will be participating in the construction of her new home.

Alongside ThenDesign Architecture, many local businesses are contributing their time, expertise, and resources to make such an affordable residential living space possible. Lake-Geauga County Habitat for Humanity has partnered with Help Build Hope, 4 Seasons Construction & Roofing, Firenza Stone, Powers Roofing & Exteriors - Ohio, Polaris Engineering & Surveying, Inc., N.E.O. Electrical Supply and Lighting Center, and Blue Collar Electricians, all of which are generously contributing to make the project a success.

On Saturday, May 9, between 8:30 AM and 3 PM, 120 volunteers are needed at the wall assembly event for Juana's house in the Lake-Geauga Habitat for Humanity ReStore parking lot (34225 Vine Street in Eastlake). The Chardon Local Schools' Success Story spotlights how an unoccupied trucking depot one mile from Chardon High School became the perfect location for the school district's new Business Affairs Transportation Center. By renovating two preexisting buildings and implementing effective use of the entire six-acre plot, they consolidated their critical business services into one efficient location, which now better serves the Chardon community.

When Chardon Local Schools first planned to consolidate their service operations and separate the transportation and maintenance departments from the high and middle school campus, they had no idea the perfect solution was just around the corner.

A long-dormant six-acre trucking depot one mile from Chardon High School wound up being the ideal location for the school district's new $7 million Business Affairs Transportation Center. Two preexisting buildings presented a unique opportunity to drastically improve district functions and efficiency.

The school district was able to consolidate multiple departments into one renovated location, including transportation, business operations, maintenance, information technology, food services, and warehousing. The four acres in front of the buildings provided adequate space for a reinforced bus fleet parking lot, a state-of-the-art industrial fueling station, and an off-the-road bus driver training area.

"This new facility is the most significant capital improvement project that our district has undertaken in over a decade," said Superintendent Dr. Michael Hanlon, Jr., Ph.D.

To build and coordinate construction, ThenDesign Architecture partnered with Millstone Management Group, which served as the Construction Manager-At-Risk. The center opened officially on December 15, 2025, with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

On Tuesday, we celebrated the historic opening of the expanded Geauga County Courthouse.

The Geauga County Courthouse sits on the City of Chardon square, which has been in the community for over 150 years. The expansion project adds needed square footage and modernizes the building, adding a variety of new spaces along with technology upgrades.

The project couldn't have been possible without the partnership of the Geauga County Board of County Commissioners, the City of Chardon, Ohio - Municipal Government, Infinity Construction, and so many other community stakeholders.

The design maintains the historic nature of the original building while providing the features necessary for today's modern courthouses. We look forward to seeing this new expansion serve Geauga County and maintain the building's presence on the square for future generations.

The Cleveland Church of Christ Citadel of Hope Ministries weathered a storm of difficulty when an unforeseen disaster in January 2025 caused catastrophic damage to the first floor of their building, requiring extensive renovations and repairs. They reached out to the original designers of the church to seek support and counsel. A relationship forged twenty years earlier bore more fruit.

The original building was designed by TDA and opened in 2002. Two decades later, Senior Pastor and CEO Bishop Lincoln C. Haughton, III, sought TDA's assistance.

Bishop Haughton recalled experiencing the building stripped back down to its construction components after renovations began. "When I saw the bare walls, concrete floors, and pipes, it looked like it did when we first built the church," he said. "When questions came up about new floors, paint, and carpet, I immediately thought about ThenDesign Architecture."

Original Interior Designer Jeanne Klecker served as the main contact during the renovation, with TDA President and CEO Chris Smith also lending his expertise.

After a nine-month renovation, church services were held on the first floor once again in September 2025. This story is a great example of how personal relationships matter.

"TDA has built a legacy on forging relationships," Chris said. "To look back and appreciate the relationship we still have with clients from long ago is incredibly fulfilling."

Jeanne said, "They know that when they needed help, we were there for them. And we were happy to do it."

Bishop Haughton said, "We watched God bless us in the midst of the storm. We never gave up, and we knew somehow everything would come together."

The IIDA Ohio Kentucky Chapter received an exclusive look into the future of educational design with their first building tour of 2026. About 30 members of the local design community gathered in February to explore the new Cuyahoga Falls City Schools 6-12 Campus, a project led by ThenDesign Architecture.

This 365,000 SF school contains grades 6-12, along with a series of specialized career technical learning spaces. The intensive design process unfolded over 2021 and 2022, with the interior design being a key focus of the project.

The tour highlighted thoughtful interior design elements and gave designers a chance to discuss current trends in education interiors.
