I mentioned I am fighting a cold in my previous post so I thought I’d show you my routine to make things easier when energy is low.
We each have our own patterns that play out when we are sick, no matter the virus. For instance, my husband, Jeff almost never coughs, but I almost always do. And I almost never fever, but he always does. This is also related to our constitutions, one of my favorite approaches being traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). My body tends towards warm and damp while his is cool and dry. We can work to balance this as well, when we’re not sick, but I’ll save those details for another post.
I keep my daily items in a favorite basket right on the counter and my shot glass to take the tinctures in water. Bringing in these little bits of joy are helpful as well. I can’t take my medicine without thinking of that sweet trip to Key West. That is medicine too.
This herb selection supports my lungs (Elacampane) to avoid more serious conditions from the excess mucus, like bronchitis or pneumonia; helps soothe and loosen a cough (Coltsfoot); dries the internal fluid production (Yarrow); fights the viral load (Usnea & Fire Cider); kills infection (GSE or Oregano); and helps me sleep through the nights of coughing (Valerian).
I am also a big proponent of well-sourced supplements. We simply do not get the macro and micro nutrients we need for optimal function, from our soils and diets. Vitamin C, vitamin D3, B complex, omega-3‘s, and a good multivitamin are my go-to daily. Whether we feel it or not, they help on a cellular level.
This May I’ll be starting a class focusing on herbs, healthy foods and time in the woods to help you build your own supplies for wellness. Stay tuned for registration details!
