If you know me at all, you know there must be a story, or explanation as to how e.p.m.d. contracting came to be; Contracting and I go back 40+ years. While I haven’t been swinging hammers the whole time, my life and environment have been around contracting.
You could find me riding around jobsites with my dad, watching new developments be built, or working on ‘side’ roofing jobs. I also loved building crazy things as a kid, all of this, ultimately leading to summer jobs as a laborer. This is where I found myself learning and identifying what became my passion for general carpentry and construction. I credit those summers for helping see the gratification in completing a project for a customer and making sure the entire experience was excellent.
Over the last 25+ years I have done countless projects that have only furthered my love for the trait. Projects for family, friends, friends of friends, and have completely remodeled my own home. Many of these projects led to conversations around starting my own contracting business. The thing was, I enjoyed what I did professionally.
The past 15 years have been spent in various business roles. Which focused on helping and improving a customer’s ability to further their education, how to pay for it, and how to improve communications with our customers. And while the general contractor mentality has always been there, it wasn’t time, until it was.
As fate would have it in January 2023, my position as a customer experience program manager with Sallie Mae was abolished. Once absorbing the impact this would have on my family, taking some time to determine the next steps, I went to my wife and said, “If it is not now, it’s never”. It took a few more weeks to get her on board, but when you know, you know, and she sees the passion I have for this business. Opening your own business is scary and exciting. We realize this is a big deal especially when you are a husband, a father, and a coach.
So, we took a leap of faith and launched our new business; e.p.m.d. contracting; The word “experience” is one that is always on my mind; trying to see the big picture. After some back and forth, we got: Experience, Project, Maintenance, Design. I think that it's important to have conversations; especially when related expectations regarding their home. Our name promotes conversation. Each letter represents what our business stands for.
Experience: The experience of a customer encompasses a lot more than just the ‘work’; this will always be the primary focus of our company. The experience (project discussion, kickoff, change orders, on-site work environment, and project completion) will be what highlights the work that we complete.
Project: A project will require one or more parties, working together and planning, to achieve a particular goal. Large or small, the focus is always the project and building what the customer envisions. Communication is vital for the overall experience.
Maintenance: All work doesn’t have to be a large or small project for us to complete or give an estimate. Many aspects of home management can be maintained with awareness and accountability. Happy to complete regular maintenance items that you may need.
Design: Building is one phase of the work, but so much goes into completing a project. While doing the work is the largest part of the project, the design, ideation, and management of expectations are just as important. Even if you don’t know exactly what you want, the goal is to provide you with various ideas, vendors, options, and price points to make sure all your needs are met.
This is a big change for the Jamieson family, but if you know us, you will soon know it’s all about experience, the gratification of completing a quality project for a satisfied customer. We will always treat our customers with respect and honesty.
I look forward to having a conversation with you!
Thank you,
Wm. Adam Jamieson
