PUBLIC SERVICE ANOUNCEMENT:
🚨MILKWEED IS BACK IN STOCK‼️
Come check out what native milkw**d species we have! They sell fast!
🦋Milkw**d is the only host plant for the monarch butterfly. Without it, they can’t survive. The easiest way to help restore declining populations is by planting milkw**d.
🌱We currently have both butterfly w**d and swamp milkw**d. Each are native to our region, but be sure to pick the right one for your space. Butterfly w**d, Asclepias tuberosa, likes well-draining sandy soil. Swamp milkw**d, Asclepias incarnata, prefers consistently moist soils, and typically grows along pond edges, wetlands, marshes and in rain gardens. Plant both in full sun (at least 6 hours)☀️
👀It is best to plant milkw**d in drifts (at least 3-6 plants). This allows butterflies to find it easily and creates more of a habitat vs a snacking station. Another tip is to plant other flowering natives nearby to allow adult monarchs to feed. You can also plant native grasses to provide essential shelter for them to rest and hide. Little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) is a great option we like to keep in stock.
