Cape Fear Cactus

Cape Fear Cactus North Carolina's Premier (and Only) Cactus Nursery
capefearcactus.com That’s where Cape Fear Cactus began! Cactus are unique & diverse, so are we!

It all started with a single prick… by a wild cactus at the Carolina Beach State Park that is! Founders Grey and Nicole were strolling the Cape Fear riverside when the idea came up to take their green thumbs and love for weird, funky plants to the next level. They found many cactus would thrive immensely in the coastal Carolina climate, quite similarly to those in temperate desert environments (mi

nus the rattlesnakes) and yet, the area lacked the preservation, business, and education regarding these hardy plants. From there, they started collecting cactus from across the nation and establishing their nursery, ranging from OG trichocereus clones to cross-pollinated seedlings by the dozen. With each pricks’ needs in mind, Cape Fear Cactus supplies all the cacti-necessities from seedlings and cactus cuttings, to specialty blended soil mixes, and cactus grub for primal growth and longevity. While these cactuses are perfect for a windowsill, many will thrive in outdoor soil and fresh air (location dependant). Although not recommended to love on these plants bare handed, they’re sure to bring brightness and a bit of flowers into your space with minimal upkeep and maximum spunky beauty! More than just a cactus shop, Cape Fear Cactus aims to provide educational resources for conservation of these badass spiked creatures. Did you know there is no fossil record for cactus, yet they’ve been studied since the 14th century!? While some say cacti were transferred from continent to continent via Christopher Columbus, rumors have it that cacti originated in Africa 120 million years ago. Wonder what the first dinosaur who hugged a cactus felt about that one! From local vendor markets to online connections, Cape Fear Cactus strives to bring lifestyle decor, with a hint of history, education and charitable contribution to every willing community. Cape Fear Cactus is woman-partnered and operated, a LGBTQIA+ ally, and an environmental charity contributor establishment.

Y'all recognize these? They're one of the more known cacti called , or commonly called . The name "San Pedro", or "Saint Peter" cactus, was allocated as it was believed the effects of the cacti will allow "users to reach heaven while on earth", further leading to the declaration of the San Pedro use as "cultural heritage" in Peru. The San Pedro species is native to the Andean mountains of South America, where it has been used for centuries by indigenous people in traditional medicine & rituals for over 3,000 years! : since this species is native to high altitude & rainfall, it can withstand temperatures far below other cacti & are deemed "less sensitive" than other species. Check out our shop's bundles for trichocereus, BURY ME fertile soil, and the perfect pot (multiple colors available) to grow your San Pedro nice & strong! 🌵
At , we provide ornamental trichocereus of different sizes to fit your surrounding, & do not condone to medicinal uses or rituals.

Ya'll might not be thriving in this heat but the cacti sure are! greenhouses are rapidly growing as these spikey guys LOVE the surplus of sunlight & high temperatures Coastal N.Carolina is producing lately (70-80F preferred). Peep those pups! While it's important to keep moisture level low to reduce rot and waterlogging, good drainage & our "BURY ME"/"HARD KNOCKS" products help with potential overwatering (remember, NO MISTING NECESSARY). Keep their soil dry between waterings with good air circulation and watch these babies open up and grow to the roof! 🌵
: Cactus don't grow from the bottom, they "pup out" from the TOP of their structure. Super unique to be able to see the growth happening!

Cape Fear Cactus aims to provide educational resources for conservation of these badass spiked creatures. Dating as far back as the Aztecs and Incas, cacti have been dubbed as important symbols of healing and divination, and in Ancient Greek history, you'll find spiny-thistle called "kaktos". Did you know there is no fossil record for cactus, yet they’ve been studied since the 14th century!? While some say cacti were transferred from continent to continent via Christopher Columbus in the New World, rumors have it that cacti originated in Africa 120 million years ago & are Old World plants. Wonder what the first dinosaur who hugged a cactus felt about that one!

Whether growing in your backyard or amongst the trees at Carolina Beach State Park, Eastern Prickly Pear cactus are the only cactus native from Maine to Mississippi. While in bloom, these beauts produce vibrant yellow flowers & delicate, edible pink fruits (which make a great margarita or jelly, btw!). With lots of bright, direct sunlight, & dry conditions, these hardy cacti will thrive & continue producing flowers/fruits year after year! They even have special antifreeze qualities to help them survive winter. 🌵
CARE TIPS: Plant in CFC "BURY ME" soil, topped w/ CFC "TOP KNOCKS" for best drainage & protection (potted, indoor). Provide 6-8 hours direct sunlight daily. Water sparingly, roughly every 2-4 weeks (if outside, normal rainfall will suffice).
