When your work comes with a very serious quality control department. 😂🐈

This utility drawer was unpacked and organized with all those little household essentials that are easy to lose track of—batteries, tape, tools and more.

And apparently, the most important part of the job was making sure the cat approved.

This cutie’s name is Barry and I think he had as much fun unpacking as we did!

Packing a house is about so much more than getting everything into boxes.

For this client, we started with decluttering and downsizing before we ever packed a box. That made a huge difference — less to pack, less to move, and less to unpack.

Then we packed with the next home in mind.

We use a color-coded system so every room is clearly identified, making it easy for the movers to know exactly where everything belongs. Our moving partners appreciate the system, too — and our clients appreciate how much easier it makes the other end of the move.

In this case, the client chose to unpack herself, but because everything was organized and clearly labeled, she had a much easier place to start.

Last year he had a furnished apartment.
This year, we started with an empty bedroom.

A bed.
A desk.
A place to lounge.
A mini fridge.
And, of course, a nespresso machine. ☕️

Because when you share a house with four other people,
your bedroom needs to feel like your own.

I might be partial, but this was my favorite space of the year…
because being Mom is my favorite job. ❤️

I was helping my adult son build furniture for his new apartment and, naturally, we had a little leftover hardware. 🔩

You know those “extra” nuts, bolts and screws that come with almost every piece of furniture? Don’t stuff them in your junk drawer.

You will likely never use them, and IF you need them it will be probably 10 years from now and you won’t remember you have them until years later when you are moving out or doing renovations and find them shoved under takeout menus and paper clips….

Catch my drift?

Yesterday we dropped off two of our three boys at NC State—one starting his freshman year and one heading into his junior year.

And just like that, the house is going to feel a little different.

There’s something about college drop-off that makes you realize how quickly the years go. You spend so much time raising them, preparing them, cheering them on… and then suddenly, you’re hugging them goodbye and driving home without them.

I’m incredibly proud. I’m incredibly grateful. And if I’m being honest, I’m a little emotional too.

This is one of those parts of Motherhood where I feel fully unprepared. ❤️
