Look what's blooming now. Rudbeckia auriculata (Eared Coneflower). This is a tall perennial that is rare in nature and only occurs in a few states in the southeast. In Alabama it primarily occurs in two locations both near Birmingham. Sometimes this plant is referred to as Swamp Black-eyed Susan. The large leaves clasp the stalk giving it its common name Eared Coneflower. It requires a consistently moist to wet location in full sun. This is a tall perennial and can grow greater than 6 ft tall.
