Founder's Day is just a short month away. And if you have an antique tractor and want to spend a lazy afternoon showing it off to the town folk of Wilton, bring it on down to the Freedom Rock Saturday Afternoon - This is the 2nd annual Antique Tractor Parade and Show (you can run it in the Founder's Day Parade if you want and think it can make it the whole route!) and we'd love to see the painted up tractors and the work clothes tractors. Prizes will be awarded for best Restored Tractor...Best Unrestored Tractor..and most unusual Tractor entry. We look forward to seeing you there!

If you attended the Memorial Day Smorgasbord at the Freedom Rock on Monday, here's a link to the Muscatine County Freedom Rock website - you'll find some previous photos of the actual construction of the site at the top of the scroll and then farther down, you'll see the photos taken on Monday of the fire department water fights, the raffle winners, the hot dog servers. Thanks to everyone for coming out and we look forward to next year's Freedom Rock Smorgasbord Block Party!

In case you've been listening to the oncoming hoof beats, there's going to be a Freedom Rock Memorial Day Smorgasbord on May 27th starting at 3 pm. 25 cent hotdogs and chips, fire department water battles, and the Freedom Rock itself. A big raffle of prizes will be announced at 5 pm. Tickets are 5 dollars each and you can't win if you don't buy a ticket!

Also, we're going to launch another offering of engraved pavers for veterans of all services. A great tribute to a friend or family member. These pavers will join the over 700 pavers already in place at the Muscatine County Freedom Rock.

We need to hit a total of 50 pavers before we can release the order to the engraver. We would hope to have that number reached by the end of June so we could possibly have the outside chance of getting them installed yet this year. Barring that circumstance, we'd look for an early summer 2025 installation.

So don't delay! Come to the Smorgasbord to get your order form or print the one out here and drop it off at the Wilton City Hall or give me a call and we'll figure out what to do.

If you've been meaning to stop by and visit the Muscatine County Freedom Rock site in downtown Wilton, but just haven't had a chance for whatever reason, maybe we can entice you to jump in the car and come on by and take a look for yourself.

In support of our effort to install another 100 engraved pavers, we'll be installing a donation / information box soon. So if you're so inclined, you can donate to the Freedom Rock Site fund or leave us your information if you'd like an engraved paver for your favorite veteran and we'll contact you.

Still some good weather left, so come on by!

It's now official. We've had several inquiries about how to get an engraved paver for your favorite Muscatine County veteran, so we've embarked on "The Next 100" engraved paver program for the Muscatine County Freedom Rock site.

We're taking pre-orders at this time and when we reach the magic 100 mark, we'll reach out to the requestors for the paver text information they want and also payment for the size of paver they would order.

We attached the paver order form that can be used to select size, fill out text and send it back to us at the address shown on the form and we'll keep it on file until we reach the 100 paver level.

If you need more information or want to know there's a person behind these posts, email us at [email protected] or give us a call at 563-554-4750 - we'd be glad to run through it with you. It's going to be cold soon so we won't have much to do except watch Wheel of Fortune and A-Team reruns.

If all goes well with this effort, we would plan on celebrating the installation of "The Next 100" at the annual Freedom Rock Smorgasbord down at the Freedom Rock site in downtown Wilton, Iowa.

So try and print out the form, or email us and we'll send you one. It's a great place to be a part of!

Thank you to everyone that came on on Labor Day to help us honor our veterans of Muscatine County and celebrate the additional installation of 107 more engraved pavers. At the same time, we revived an old Wilton tradition of a 10 cent smorgasbord...well, we charged 25 cents - inflation, you know.

We had around 350 to 400 people show up for the party and the great pulled pork sandwiches while the weather was absolutely perfect.

Thanks to our sponsors for donating raffle prizes or dollars or food to help us put on the event. HyVee, WalMart, Jeff's Markets, Midwest Grill Supply, Menard's, Farm and Fleet, the Wilton Candy Kitchen and several individuals who donated time, effort and money to the event. We think it went so well we're going to do it again next Labor Day - so mark your 2022 calendars when you get them!

The event netted about $ 3,300.00 to the Freedom Rock maintenance fund. That money will allow us to continue improving the site, make needed repairs, cleanings, etc. that inevitably come up with maintaining the memorial site.

Also, what we have decided to do as there seems to be a demand for it - we're going to collect information for another round of engraved pavers. If you have been to the site and you're from Muscatine County or you have relatives or friends that were from Muscatine County and served in our armed forces and you'd like to see their name memorialized at the site, use the form attached here or email us with your information. If we get 100 requests for pavers, we'll fire up the order machine and get back to you for paver text information and payment method, and we'll do it again next year.

Here's the address to send your information to:
Ted Marolf - PO Box 283 - Wilton, IA. 52778

Make sure you include your phone # and email if you have it.

We've attached some photos from the September 6 Labor Day event for your review.

Thanks again to everybody who came out and helped us celebrate and honor our veterans. A great way to end the summer!
