Thank you to everyone that came on on Labor Day to help us honor our veterans of Muscatine County and celebrate the additional installation of 107 more engraved pavers. At the same time, we revived an old Wilton tradition of a 10 cent smorgasbord...well, we charged 25 cents - inflation, you know.
We had around 350 to 400 people show up for the party and the great pulled pork sandwiches while the weather was absolutely perfect.
Thanks to our sponsors for donating raffle prizes or dollars or food to help us put on the event. HyVee, WalMart, Jeff's Markets, Midwest Grill Supply, Menard's, Farm and Fleet, the Wilton Candy Kitchen and several individuals who donated time, effort and money to the event. We think it went so well we're going to do it again next Labor Day - so mark your 2022 calendars when you get them!
The event netted about $ 3,300.00 to the Freedom Rock maintenance fund. That money will allow us to continue improving the site, make needed repairs, cleanings, etc. that inevitably come up with maintaining the memorial site.
Also, what we have decided to do as there seems to be a demand for it - we're going to collect information for another round of engraved pavers. If you have been to the site and you're from Muscatine County or you have relatives or friends that were from Muscatine County and served in our armed forces and you'd like to see their name memorialized at the site, use the form attached here or email us with your information. If we get 100 requests for pavers, we'll fire up the order machine and get back to you for paver text information and payment method, and we'll do it again next year.
Here's the address to send your information to:
Ted Marolf - PO Box 283 - Wilton, IA. 52778
Make sure you include your phone # and email if you have it.
We've attached some photos from the September 6 Labor Day event for your review.
Thanks again to everybody who came out and helped us celebrate and honor our veterans. A great way to end the summer!
