Today I got a call from a young lady that was locked out of her house. While we were on the phone, she asked me about the price of the lockout. In the mean time, her mom was on the phone with another business unknowingly. The young lady called me back and informed me that the other locksmith was present at her home, but was uncomfortable with his work and presence. I told her to stay on the phone with me, which she did, while she waited for her mom to return home. The young lady told me they were going to charge them $160.00 to get her back into her house. I asked her the name of the company, and instantly knew she had a scammer. I told her to look at the invoice to see if it had a phone number. She replied with “no”. Then I told her to check for an address to the company. She then informed me that the invoice had neither. So they told this person they were not going to pay the full amount. And, he began to bargain with her. Asking her, “how about $90”? They declined. She then proceeded to explain to him that she will pay the $75 that we (another locksmith) quoted her. Finally, he agreed he would take the $75, which is the price I quoted. So, in the end, it’s not the fact that they looked for another locksmith instead of me, I took initiative and did what I could to help because the lady was concerned and worried. And I kept her on the phone to make sure she was ok and make sure the problem was handled accordingly. About 30 min later, the young lady and her mom came in the shop with these beautiful flowers as a thank you. Not only did this make my day, but it also showed me that sometimes putting others before yourself, even if it’s not benefiting you, it’s still showing that there is always a good outcome to a problem.
