As hurricane Ian approaches, please be careful and heed all safety protocols recommended.

Here are a few tree care safety tips-

Pre-Storm-

1- remove any dead or dying limbs from your trees

2- ensure that you’ve had a certified Arborist inspect your trees for any weak branch unions and perform any necessary pruning

3- remove any dead Palm fronds and seed pods

4- remove any dead trees from around your home or in an area where they could be a threat to people or property

Post Storm-

1- if any tree limbs or trees have fallen and interfered with power lines, stay clear and do not touch any part of the tree

2- if any trees or limbs have fallen on your home or building, do not try to remove unless trained, or hire a certified Arborist

3- thoroughly document any damage to property

4- be cautious of any leaning or uprooted trees and do not walk around or under them as they could be severely weakened and continue to fall over

What makes a tree hazardous? Removals are always our last resort. We hate seeing our tree canopy depleted. However, there are circumstances that could cause a tree to be dangerous to people or property. At that point, removals may be necessary. If the tree is too decayed and unable to repair itself, those limbs or the tree may need to be taken down. Otherwise we also can utilize specific pruning methods to encourage better growth, reduce strain on branch unions and create a healthier tree!

Are your trees looking weak and tired? There are many things that could impact your trees health and make it look bad or worse, hazardous. Most of the time, it all starts with the root system. Especially if the soil around your tree is very hard and compacted or too high and mounded around the trunk, therefore covering the root flare of the tree.
