Routine maintenance can avoid costly situations like this. Being installed correctly from the start is a good idea also.
I visit a lot of homes who are experiencing similar issues. Usually by the time I get the call, rot has already eaten into rim joist, joist ends and sills- even into the subflooring. Most of the time damage has been done to the door as well and neees replacement or threshold work at the least. Regardless everything gets torn out to repair the rot. The example here is not bad compared to many I’ve seen. Left on its own the rot will eventually make soft spots which can lead to fall- through and potential injury.
Proper control of water and routine maintenance like caulking and painting are essential parts of keeping a home. Otherwise the repairs become very costly. I do this stuff on my own home in the fall before the weather turns bad. I have one door that still needs to be replaced due to these same issues and was like that when we moved in.
If you are a home owner or property owner I can teach you how to do this type of routine maintenance and hopefully help you avoid costly repairs.
