Can you believe we’re STILL in a drought? 😳🌱

It’s hard to wrap your head around… but yes, even after some rain here and there, much of New Hampshire—and New England as a whole—is still dealing with drought conditions. Even with the rain, our trees are still feeling the stress. Dry soil + rising temps = real struggle for root systems… and it shows in leaf drop, scorch, and overall decline.

💧 The good news? A little extra care goes a long way:

✔️ Water deeply (about once every 7–10 days)
✔️ Check soil moisture before watering
✔️ Aim for about an inch of water per week
✔️ Add mulch to help retain moisture

It’s all about balance—too little water harms your trees, but too much can too.
If your trees are looking stressed, don’t wait—reach out to your local Bartlett Tree Experts team for guidance 🌳📞

🟢 May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month 🟢

In New England, warmer weather means more time spent outdoors—and increased exposure to ticks. Our region consistently sees higher rates of Lyme disease, making prevention an important part of protecting your home, family, and pets.

At Bartlett Tree Experts, we work with homeowners across New England to help create healthier, safer outdoor environments. Proper landscape management can play a key role in reducing tick habitat around your property.

Awareness is the first step toward prevention. If you have questions about protecting your landscape this season, we’re here to help!

🌿 Northern New England - Applied Plant Health Care Training 🌿

On April 14, we brought together PHC Specialists from every office across our Northern New England Division for a full day of hands‑on learning at the Urban Forestry Center in Portsmouth, NH. This Applied PHC Training was designed to support first‑year specialists by building consistency, confidence, and excellence in plant health care delivery.

The day blended classroom discussion with extensive outdoor, practical sessions covering diagnostics and sampling, PPE and rig safety, IPM field monitoring, client communication, soil care, injections, large tree spraying techniques, and tool demonstrations. Attendees rotated through stations to gain real‑world experience, ask questions, and share insights across the region.

A big thank‑you to our presenters and instructors for leading such a comprehensive program, and to everyone who participated and helped make the day a success. This kind of regional collaboration and ongoing training is essential to delivering high‑quality, science‑based tree care.

🌳 Arborists for a Day at Smith College! 🌳

We’re proud to see Dr. Beth Brantley and Craig Houghton, Northern New England’s own Regional Trainer, featured in Smith College’s recent Arborists for a Day program. Together, they led a hands-on workshop at the MacLeish Field Station, giving students real-world experience in safe chainsaw operation, tree felling techniques, and responsible land stewardship.

The event highlighted more than technical skills—it empowered students to build confidence, overcome fear, and connect more deeply with the natural world, all while learning from seasoned professionals in the field. A wonderful example of education, mentorship, and environmental stewardship in action.

👏 Thank you, Beth and Craig, for investing in the next generation of arborists and environmental leaders!
