Today's affordable housing update is brought to you by the environazi overlords running Kitsap County, where a client has a 20-acre lot and wants to build a 900sf detached ADU over a garage for their parents' use. Kitsap County requires a pre-application meeting ($2350 fee), a conditional use permit that requires a public hearing ($4205 fee plus a $1200 fee for the hearing examiner), a State Environmental Policy Act review ($725 fee), and a $500 "review" fee to add a dwelling unit to the owner's existing well. This $9000 in fees for planning approval of a DADU on a 20-acre lot, fercryinoutloud!!; and do not include architectural, structural and civil engineering fees or building permit fees.
