Another amazing review from a very sweet lady who her and her husband Scott own a log cabin that once was the Kamas social hall. Now in their late seventies they find the maintenance on their summer home harder to keep up with. I love meeting and working for people who appreciate my hard work as much as they do.

Do you have these painted wood crank to open windows? During the winter they will condense water on the inside which runs down and sits on the inner, lower casing. The paint will bubble and start to flake over time. The best way to fix it is to scrape off the flaking paint, sand smooth, and repaint.

If it’s not done, the moisture will start to seep into the joints, opening up these joints and allowing more moisture in. When the moisture freezes it will start to split the casing joints causing more damage much harder to fix than just some sanding and painting.

These windows were caught in time and fixed. The 13 windows look good as new and should last another 5 to 10 years.

Just finished a log cabin in dire need of sealing. This home was started with linseed oil soon after being built. Once you start with linseed oil you can not change to a different sealer, unless the entire home is bead blasted (sanded) and all finish removed. Linseed oil has a natural darkening agent to it that causes each coat to get darker than the one previous. But if you don’t seal the logs every couple years it gets blotchy like this one turned out. The dark spots are caused by mold penetrating the grain of the wood, as linseed oil is not the best waterproofer especially after not being sealed within the recommended intervals. But the homeowner was very happy with the final result. It does look much better after almost 2 coats of oil. Pictures don’t do much justice though.
