What is Hydrofracking?

Hydrofracking, or hydraulic fracturing, which you see here, can increase water well yields by injecting high-pressure water into the bedrock to widen and extend fractures, improving water flow.

What is Hydrofracking?
Purpose:�Hydrofracking aims to increase the flow of water into a well, particularly those with low or declining yields. �
How it works:�The process involves injecting high-pressure water into the bedrock surrounding the well, potentially widening and extending existing fractures and fissures, thus increasing the network of water-bearing pathways. �
Suitable Wells:�Hydrofracking is only suitable for wells that draw water from fractures and fissures in bedrock, not those that rely on porous formations. �
Procedure:
* The pump and piping are removed from the well. �
* A packer (a rubber balloon or mechanical seal) is placed below the well casing to isolate the area to be fractured. �
* High-pressure water is pumped into the well below the packer, attempting to clear blockages and create new pathways for water flow. �
* The packer is moved to different depths for multiple hydrofracking stages. �
* The well is flushed and the pump is reinstalled after the process.
