I have owned my lawncare business for 15+ yrs. and recently there has been a lot of talk about removing are lawns to conserve water. I know that is very important to conserve water and not necessarily by removing are lawns. We need to stop and think of the benefits of having a lawn at home. Do you know the benefits?
1. Breathe: One 5,000 sq ft lawn captures carbon dioxide, dust and pollen and produces oxygen for us to breathe every day.
2. Cool: Ever walk on a hot sidewalk or pavement only to end up running to your lawn to get relief. Lawns can be up to 60 degrees cooler acting like air condtioners due to a naturally occurring cooling process known as evapotranspiration.
3. Increases your homes value. A well maintained lawn can increase property value 10-15%
4. Improves mental health. I think a nice looking lawn is very helpful to are mental health. Lay a blanket down to sit and read a book or take a nap. Plus I love the smell of fresh cut grass.
The picture of the lawn that I mow looks like plush carpet. The only water this lawn has gotten since fall was mother nature. Proper fertilizer, sharp mower blade, not cutting it so short and a product I am starting to really love Hydratain. This product applied 2 times in the season can help reduce the lawns watering needs up to 50%. So before you get rid of your lawn think of the benefits of having a beautiful green lawn.
