Hill House Farm and Nursery

Hill House Farm and Nursery We are a native plant nursery located in Rappahannock County, VA. Retail hours:
Thursday & Friday, 8am-4pm
Saturday, 8am-2pm

At Hill House we grow, market, sell and install only the highest quality native plants for a wide range of habitat restoration projects and gardens. We offer only our own nursery-grown plants that come from seed or division, or are propagated vegetatively—never wild-collected. We cultivate native perennials, shrubs, vines, native grasses, shrubs, ferns and trees. The plants we offer are chosen for

their aesthetic qualities, durability, vigor and wildlife benefits. Our plants are available at various plant sales throughout the season, as well as at various farmers’ markets. (See our Event Calendar on our website for details.) You may also special order plants for pick-up at one of our many plant sales. Although our nursery is not set up as a retail site--after all, it really is nature's showroom--you are also welcome to visit us by appointment, year-round. Please contact us to schedule a time. And be sure to allow enough time to wander through our gardens or stroll down to our pond to discover the various natives we cultivate here at our home. We look forward to seeing you and to sharing the breath-taking brilliance of our native gardens!

Today is June 1st, which begins National Pollinator's month!

At Hill House Nursery, we are passionate about supporting local wildlife and protecting the natural beauty of our environment. That’s why we focus on growing and promoting native plants, which provide essential food and habitat for birds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Native plants are uniquely adapted to our local climate and soil conditions, making them a sustainable choice that requires less water and maintenance. By encouraging the use of native species in gardens and landscapes, we help create healthier ecosystems, increase biodiversity, and give local wildlife the resources they need to thrive. Our goal is to make it easy for our community to choose plants that are not only beautiful but also beneficial to the environment.

Pictured is a bird's nest spotted by Christine while watering. This bird's nest was recently built in our Rosa palustris (swamp rose) that are for sale in one of our greenhouses.

🍓Take a look at these native strawberries popping up!🥰

Fragaria virginiana
Naturalizing ground cover or edging in the garden- works well under shrubs. Small fruits are delicious if you can beat the critters or slugs to get them!
Grow in full sun to bright shade in average, loamy soil.
