This one was a bit of a unique project.

A failed tub/shower combo had caused water damage in the bathroom and the kitchen below. The job came to me through a referral from a friend, and after reviewing the insurance scope, it was pretty clear the damage had been under-scoped. I was able to work with the adjuster to make sure the homeowner received proper coverage for the repairs.

Once demolition started, we found the real culprit. The tub had been failing for years, and amazingly, it wasn’t even properly supported. Roughly two-thirds of the tub had no structural support underneath it.

So it was back to Home Depot for additional materials, rebuilding the foundation correctly, replacing the tub with a walk-in shower, matching existing finishes, and repainting the entire bathroom.

Older homes have a way of revealing surprises once you start opening walls and pulling things apart. That’s why experience matters.

In the end, the homeowner has a solid, properly built shower, a beautiful finished bathroom, and most importantly, peace of mind knowing the problem was fixed correctly instead of simply covered up.

Those are the kinds of projects I enjoy most.

Most repairs aren’t what they first appear to be.

A few weeks ago, I was called out to look at a porch that had dropped several inches. The center support had failed, and the entire front edge of the porch was sagging.

Phase one was lifting the porch, rebuilding the support system underneath, and restoring the structure. By itself, that would have solved the symptom.

But while lifting the porch, it became clear that the real problem started much higher up.

An old built-in gutter system had failed years ago. Water had been leaking into the structure for so long that it had rotted framing, damaged the roof system, and eventually caused the porch support to collapse below.

What started as a porch repair became a roof investigation. What started as a roof investigation became a major reconstruction.

We opened the roof and found far more damage than anyone expected. The old gutter system had to be removed, sections of the roof structure rebuilt, damaged wood replaced, and the entire porch roof reworked to eliminate the root cause once and for all.

That’s one of the things I enjoy most about this work. Sometimes the visible problem isn’t the real problem. The challenge is figuring out why something failed and fixing it in a way that prevents it from happening again.

The porch is now solid, the drainage system has been redesigned, and the structure is stronger than it’s been in decades.

Not every basement needs torn out and started from scratch. Sometimes it just needs vision, craftsmanship, and somebody willing to bring the space back to life.

This one was a good one.

Front porch had settled almost 3 inches after the center column failed. You could see it in the roofline—it was only going to get worse.

Instead of tearing it apart, I lifted it back into place, rebuilt the support system underneath, and tied everything back together the way it should’ve been done from the start.

Solid. Level. Locked in.

Honestly, it’s stronger now than when it was originally built.

I don’t just replace things—I figure out why they failed and fix the problem at its root.
