A perfect example of when something looks good on the outside but is completely wrong on the inside.
A previous mason had added rebar and 1.5 flue tiles to this unlined chimney—unfortunately, not to nfpa 211 standards and definitely not safe as the client had been experiencing heavy oil smells and blows backs for 3 years!!
To make it right, I removed everything and installed a 316Ti stainless steel chimney liner kit from , giving this chimney the proper lining it should’ve had from the start.
I repointed the chimney from the roofline up, flashSeal to seal the flashing to stop water from coming into the 2nd floor bedrooms and parged the chimney in the basement to protect it from further degradation.
