History


Hendricks Heating & Air Conditioning LLC is a family owned business. Hendricks Heating was started in 1930 by Herman Hendricks in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They originally began by installing cast iron furnaces delivered to your home with a horse and wagon. In the 1960's, Herm Hendricks sold the business to his niece's husband, Gerald DeVries. The business was then moved to Grandville A

venue, north of Hall Street where it operated for many years. Gerald's son, John, joined the business as a teenager and became a partner with Gerald in the mid 1980's. Gerald's other son, Paul, joined the business in the early 1990's and bought Gerald's portion of the business. John's son, Jeff, joined the company in the late 1990's and is in the process of buying into the business. The company moved to its present location on Chicago Drive, just west of Burlingame, in 2003. Times have changed and so has the face of our business. Hendricks now has a fleet of trucks to provide our customers with state of the art equipment and with state of the art service.

In 1926, one hundred years ago this year, Bert Huizen opened his furniture business on Burton Street in Galewood, right next door to the family residence he grew up at and current home to his parents, John and Kate Huizen. At first, Bert focused on furniture making, repairing and upholstery, but would soon include a sales area for new furniture. Today, Huizens occupies all three lots of the original Huizen Addition (plat). The old Huizen farmhouse is now their parking lot at the northwest corner of Burton Street and Huizen Avenue.
