So it really sucks when you are working in a home that has had a crappie contractor work on it before you. Last week I had a floor to install in a bathroom. The guy that worked two years before me left my client with what he called a partial sub floor install. In fact what it turned out to be was nothing more than 1/8 inc osb that was put over several wholes in the floor and to cover up his inability to level the floor beneath that. So instead of 3 days to pull the sink tub and toilet and then install the flooring and replace the sink, tub and toilet. We ended up spending two extra days trying to figure out how to fix the waves in the floor and then installing a true subfloor just to get back on track ...

Well today we went out to a leaking cold water. We ended up replacing about 15 foot of pipe, two valves and supply lines to the bathroom sink and toilet. The pipes were in bad shape. There was a lot of build up on the insides of the pipe. I bet they have better pressure now... In a few weeks we will be remodeling the entire bathroom. Going to strip her to the studs and check out the subfloor, then lay a tile floor, replace the toilet flang and rework the drain lines for the new toilet tub and sink. Then replace the bathtub and tile the shower surround put in new walls and new wall mounted sink. I can't wait. But first I have to start thinking electrical....

So I'm working in a client's yard today. As I was twisting a garden hose off of an outdoor water spigot, the entire spigot came away from the house and water shot out the side of the house. This is the shoddy crap that the so called plumber installed!!!! Brass to plastic on an outside wall. This was a failure from the beginning. We have Temperatures that fall into the teens and even negatives quite frequently in our winters... This should have definitely had a freeze proof spigot in place... Fortunately for my client it broke when I was on site and able to repair it properly with a $30 part ..... only $20 more than the crap, and this will not happen again.

So we were called out to job yesterday that took a weird turn. We were called out because our client had a heat vent that was starting to push a ceiling tile down a bit and there was a wire hanging in the vent. So when I get in the attic I found a power cord that was spliced into a junction box and running over to a power supply for a camera and a USB cord that was running down into the heat vent in question upon further investigation we found the insulation pulled back and a few holes in the ceiling near the vent fan over the shower. Yep that's not good!! So my client's called the police. In the end they know who the culprit is, and brings us to the reason for my post. You need to be aware of your space. Check out your vents, and smoke detectors. Is there a light somewhere you don't think it should be. Don't ignore it. Check it out.. call in a handyman, call the police call the fire department. Don't call your landlord or the building supervisor. Always have an independent 3rd party step in. Hope you all have a wonderful new years eve!!

So with the cold weather on its way. I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that it's important to have your chimneys cleaned regularly and the fire brick and door seals in your wood stoves checked and replaced as needed. So give us a call or send us a message if you're needing a cleaning or brick and or gasket replacement. Pictures are from a job we did last week. Had to replace all 14 brick. Even cutting a few for the proper fit.

So this was a little job, but it means a lot to the client! Installed a pet door for a very large completely sweet dog and the construction of a 3×4 landing and a 4×6 ramp.. Big or small we pay the same attention to details. It's all about happy clients!! Yes we knocked this out on April 1st and it was in the 30s and blowing snow most of the day.
