First tomatoes of the season. Cherokee Purple. It’s an Early Heirloom tomato found by John Green who said that the tomato had originated with the Cherokees more than 100 years ago. Sweet, tangy & delicious. Sure beats Early Girl.

Left for Sicily when the broccoli was the size of a quarter. Came back to 5 huge solid heads of both broccoli and cabbage. Made cavatelli with sausage and broccoli, and then a nice batch of cream of broccoli soup. The cabbage is in the process of becoming sauerkraut.

Plum Regal Tomatoes. Extremely disease, resistant, and very flavorful. Out taste tested the San Marzano‘s I grew. I think you need volcanic soil to grow really good San Marzano‘s.

Broccoli Blue Wind continues to produce many side shoots all summer long. This hybrid variety seems to be no longer produced because it’s smaller early heads cannot compete with huge commercial heads of broccoli. I’m now out of seeds. Any thoughts?

I pulled all of my onions and shallots Sunday morning after 5 inches of rain fell Saturday night. They needed another week to dry out in the bed but que sera. They are now on a makeshift drying rack under my porch roof with two fans blowing them dry I hope.
