Handy Stop Nursery, established by Alan & Shirley Sommer, is a retail garden center located in Yoakum, Texas. Employed for over 15 years with the Sommers, Zack Bordovsky now proudly owns and operates this beautiful local business. Nebraska man (Leonard Zila) and an Iowa woman (Shirley Houk) married, moved to Texas, built a convenience store and then decided that maybe the locals would buy vegetable plants as well. Leonard and Shirley, both from the farmlands of America who also lived through the Great Depression, didn't know much about the nursery business but they did know two important things: QUALITY & VALUE! And now, 40 years later, the importance of QUALITY & VALUE has always been, and yet remains, a priority. The few flats of vegetables offered seasonally on the sidewalk have now become ten's of thousands of plants and trees sold annually. We wish to thank all the gardeners in Dewitt, Gonzales, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties that have made Handy Stop a destination nursery.
