Even the plants are social distancing down on the farm....

Back at the Lane Co Farmers' Market this week with a great selection of plants for planting this Memorial Day weekend.

Be sure to find us in our new socially distant spot on the East Park Block for our next to last market of the season.

Not as aromatic or as immediately filling as a Rita's Burrito or Dana's Cheesecake that you would normally get in that spot, but we do have DIY salsa kits! Everyone misses them and their fellow SM vendors and look forward to their jubilant return. Meanwhile, we deeply appreciate being able to use the space to keep things safe for the community.

Like our tomato plants, please come prepared to pratice good social distancing and cooperate with your neighbors while you shop.

Happy Gardening!

Beginning this week Saturday May 16 our booth has been relocated to the East Park Blocks to provide more space for social distancing. We are located along the east side of the plaza typically used for Saturday Market food court.

Austin, Sydney and Momo will be there ready for you beginning at 8:45am. First two hours are reserved for our elders.

This is our peak week for varieties across the board, tomatoes, peppers, cukes and squash. There will also be Italian and Asian eggplants.

Please help spread the word about our new location!

Weather service is predicting temps in the high 70s and 80s over the next five days. With soils drying and the sun shining, the CDC expects a widespread outbreak of Spring Fever-20.

Those with serious cases are prone to buying just one more variety of tomato, often exhibit greening of the thumbs and have a dirt stains on their pant knees and under their fingernails.

Leading plant doctors everywhere recommend treating Spring Fever with copious amounts of fertilizers and garden starts applied topically by hand to your garden as frequently as you can. Spring Fever is rarely fatal, unless you are a slug...

Peppers are now live on the HayhurstValley.com online nursery and will be out at booth at the Lane County Farmers' Market this coming Saturday.

One tip for getting the most out of your peppers: add several hands of bone meal to the soil and mix in just before you transplant your pepper. The calcium and phosphorous will promote more and healthier fruit.

Also most peppers will benefit from being supported by a small wire cage as used for tomatoes. Their branches are relatively brittle and can snap under the heavy load of a good crop of fruit. Using cages helps support the branches and keeps the entire plant from tipping over.

It is best to protect your young peppers with plastic tunnels or cold frames for the next couple of weeks if the weather is rainy or cold.

Pro tip for you savvy shoppers out there:

Some plants are going to be habitually sold down or even sold out during the first two hours of market which are reserved for our elders.

The solution to that is to just say OK, Boomer and pre-order your plants online at our online nursery at HayhurstValley.com. Then you can be sure to get what you want and just pick them up any time in the afternoon.

Red sky at night, sailor's delight....

A particularly nice sunset in the Hayhurst Valley from last year.

Alas nothing but rain on the horizon this week. But we will be at opening day of Lane County Farmers' Market this week rain or shine.

In order to provide the safest means of getting plants to our customers we are offerring plant sales online with prepaid pickup at the Lane Co Farmers' Market and perhaps other locations as demand warrants.

Spread the word far and wide. Help us get the word out:

Hayhurst Valley is back and open online!

Note we will also be delivering to a couple of outlets that remain open including Sundance Natural Foods in Eugene and at the Douglas County Farmers' Coop in Roseburg.
