Surprised to see baby fish in your pond? That’s actually a great sign. 🐟💧
Late spring and early summer is spawning season for koi and goldfish. While they can lay thousands of eggs, only a small number usually survive and grow into baby fish.
For the first few weeks, the babies are tiny and feed on natural microorganisms already living in the pond. As they grow, you can begin feeding them high-protein fish food crushed into smaller pieces so they can eat it more easily.
By the end of summer, pond owners have to decide wether to let them overwinter outdoors or bring them inside with proper filtration and space to continue growing.
Watching baby fish grow is one of the most rewarding parts of pond ownership. Remember that these baby fish can eventually become full-sized fish, so long-term pond population management is important too.
