Your Herb Garden was “Mint to Be”
Wednesday April 1, 2026

Join the Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens Horticulture Committee for an engaging Herb Workshop. Our instructor will be Dennis James from DJ’s Greenhouse & Gardens from Transfer PA. He will guide us in the choosing, planting and caring for your herbs both indoors and outdoors while also sharing simple ways to use your harvest in everyday cooking. This class is designed for gardeners of all experience levels. You will be provided soil, a container and 3-4 herb plants to take home along with new knowledge.

Price is $45 per person if you are a Friends Member and $50 per person for non-members. Class size is limited to the first 25 paid reservations. Class will be held in the Rossi Auditorium which is on the lower level in the Education Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens.

To pay and reserve your seat please call 330-740-7116 and ask for the Shop or stop in at the Shop in the Gardens between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday and 12 Noon – 4 p.m. Sunday (note: these are our Shop Winter Hours). The Davis Center is closed on Mondays.

Wednesday, March 11
Spring Into Flavor: Fresh Recipes for Spring. Becky and Mary Lou will be back with new spring menu items for tasting and recipes to take home to create spring dishes for your family and friends.

Wednesday, April 1
Your Herb Garden was “Mint to Be”: Tips for success in growing herbs and herb food tasting
Dennis James from DJ’s Greenhouse & Gardens will be guiding the class on the planting caring and cultivation of herbs along with a tasting of food items made with herbs and recipes. You will take home and a herb plant.

Sunday, April 12
Hands On Bonsai: History, techniques for shaping and caring for your bonsai tree.
Daniel White of Black River Bonsai will be presenting and guiding beginners on the world of
bonsai. Participants will receive a tree to take home as part of the class fee.

Art Exhibit at the Weller Gallery

Currently the Weller Gallery inside the D.D and Velma Davis Education and Visitor Center has an exhibit for you to enjoy, “The Western LanzScape”, showcasing photos taken over the last 30 years by local photographer Scott Lanz during his extensive travels in the Western United States. This photo collection will be on display through the end of December.

In addition to enjoying the exhibit, the annual Mill Creek Park 2026 calendar and other prints and cards created by Mr. Lanz are on sale in the Shop in the Gardens and make great Christmas gifts, especially for out-of-town family and friends with whom you have shared memories of our beautiful park.

The Davis Center and the Shop in the Gardens is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 am – 5 pm and Sunday Noon to 5pm. The Center is closed on Mondays and Federal Holidays.

Christmas Floral Workshop
Thursday, November 20 at 1PM

Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens Horticulture Committee is excited to present a festive floral workshop at 1 p.m. on Thursday November 20th at the Davis Education and Visitor Center, Rossi Auditorium. Mark Green, owner of Green’s Floral in Hubbard, Ohio will guide us in creating both a swag and a centerpiece for you to take home that will enhance your holiday décor this season. Fee includes instruction and all materials.

Cost is $50 for Friends Members and $58 for Non-members. You can register/pay for this workshop by stopping in to the Shop in the Gardens which is open Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday Noon to 5 p.m. You can also call 330-740-7116 and ask the receptionist to transfer you to the Shop in the Gardens during the stated business hours.

Class size is limited to the first 25 paid registrations.

Please note the Davis Center and the Shop are CLOSED ON MONDAYS.

From Garden to Table
Fall Harvest Kitchen Event

Join Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens Horticulture Committee as we spice up Fall by focusing on the rich, cozy flavors of the season. Highlight the vibrant colors and textures of harvest ingredients like pumpkins, apples, and squash. Pairing them with herbs like sage or rosemary gives that garden-fresh vibe. These dishes can bring warmth and comfort to you, your family and friends celebrating the season’s bounty.

Picture this: a cozy harvest gathering featuring four delicious soups, each with unique fall flavors. Becky and Mary Lou will serve flavored tea and coffee, made with aromatic herbs and spices. And don't forget the desserts and fun surprises that will sweeten up the event.

Price is $12 per person for Friends Members and $19 per person for non-Friends members. Class is limited to the first 25 paid reservations and will be held in the Radius Room off the Rossi Auditorium at Fellows Riverside Gardens.

Shop in the Gardens Announces the Arrival of 2026 Mill Creek Park Calendar

Join Friends for On The Terrace at 5!
Wednesday, August 20| 5-7:30PM

Join us Wednesday August 20th on the Fellows Riverside Garden Café Terrace for On the Terrace at 5! This month we will feature musician, Diane Drapcho. Diane has lived her whole life in Youngstown, and used to be known as The Singing Art Teacher, once upon a time. But since retiring ten years ago, is now known as The Queen of Bossa Nova, since mellow, jazzy pop music is now front and center over kids’ tunes.

Playing both acoustic guitar and nylon electric guitar, Diane covers the music of Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Amy Winehouse, Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, and Bill Withers along with newcomers such as Laufey and Maggie Rogers, plus many hits from The Great American Songbook, think Moon River!

A soothing and mellow vocal style with soft guitar accompaniment, along with a glass of wine completes the ideal setting for relaxation and enjoyment on a summer evening.

Doors open at 4:30 pm and music will start at 5:00 pm. The price for Friends members is $13 per person and non-members $18.00 per person and includes two glasses of wine. Food will also be available for purchase until ~ 6 pm from Kravitz Deli.

Please join us on Wednesday, July 16 for On the Terrace at 5! to hear Jazz singer and Saxophone player Stan Miller. Stan has developed his own particular brand of "cool jazz" which fans throughout Northeast OH and Western PA have grown to love.

This event will be located on the Café Terrace at the D.D. and Velma Davis Education and Visitors Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave, Youngstown, OH. Music will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and doors will open at 4:45 p.m. The price for Friends members will be $13.00 per person and non-members $18.00 per person and includes two glasses of wine.

The sounds of Stan's smooth voice and jazz saxophone and the view from the terrace are the perfect backdrop to a relaxing evening of sipping wine and enjoying great conversation with Friends!
