Ever wondered what happens when you try to run your garage door opener with a broken torsion spring? The photo on top is the result.

It may seem as if this was the result of a Jedi mind trick, but the strain of lifting the dead-weight of the door caused the opener shaft to flex so greatly that all 10 rollers pulled out of the track and the door landed inside the garage, suspended only by the opener arm.

While this is an extreme example, it shows the danger of not calling a professional the moment your garage door appears to be struggling. Fortunately, the homeowner was out of the way when this happened, otherwise they could have been very seriously injured.

We were able to reinstall the door, with only some minor parts needing replacement, and the door, while not perfect, is running smoothly and safely.

The elusive double spring break...basically the Yeti of our industry: you hear about it, but you hope to never see it in person.

A torsion spring break is unexpected, but not uncommon. If you hear a loud "pop," or notice that your opener is struggling to pick up your door, the culprit is often a broken spring. You want to stop immediately and call Mr. Goldie. You never want to attempt to open or close a door on a broken spring, as this can cause further damage.
