Set in beautiful Hampshire, the brief for this project was to design a cottage where friends and family could spend long periods of time just next door to the prime residence within the existing Farm.

The Lateral Verandah House is, in many ways, a natural extension of the House of Three Streams. They are located on the same site and were designed concurrently but built in separate phases. This home is located further down the slope of this densely forested and steep land. The ravines intersected and informed the house. The House of Three Streams has, at this point, exited the site boundaries and the slopes here are slightly shallower. The memory of ‘Place’ here is significant; Tung Fort sits in close proximity to the East; the topography of the land is particular; the forestation is dense and the climate is distinct, especially considering the eddying wind currents due to the large expanse of Pawna dam towards the North/East and the low lying hills to the South/South-West. The monsoon is violent but beautiful and rain rarely falls vertically due to the accompanying wind.

At present, as China's most extensive whiskey distillery, it has become the first group company in China to practice the green concept of net zero emissions and take carbon neutrality as its long-term goal. Therefore, the beauty of production naturally became the design inspiration for their first flagship whiskey bar in Shanghai.

The Villa spreads over two levels revealing a double-height ceiling at the main entrance, the stairs lobby, and the main reception space. IAIA Studio used various marble slabs and finishes to accentuate the potential of natural stone in the home’s interiors. Marble Slabs have been carefully selected to match with one another, wrapping floors and walls, and sculpted to include patterns, textures, and lighting details.
