Stimulating colors ⚪

The strategic color application in the FLEXHab training facility aims to positively impact astronauts’ mood, cognitive performance, and spatial orientation in isolated and confined environment.

In the habitat, the blue and green tones in the galley and crew quarters are intended to create a calming, earth-like experience which is vital for enforcing relaxation.

The orange elements introduced in the laboratory area provide a vibrant contrast, reducing the sensory monotony which can occur in small spaces over a long time period.

By introducing contrasting colors across the habitat, the crew is provided with functional differentiation between work, rest, and social areas, helping to imitate usual living conditions.

Another look at The Green Eye 🌴

The Green Eye is the heart of a network of landscape paths and and urban spaces known as “The Generational Path”, designed to connect this new neighborhood and make space for recreational activities for all ages.

The pupil of the eye serves as a tranquil space where these paths converge. Inspired the lush national parks of Vietnam, this space is designed to evoke the tranquility of a forest clearing or cave opening.

Haiphong is a province in northern Vietnam situated at the mouth of the Red River Delta. Due to its coastal location, the province has a rich maritime history and a great environmental diversity.

Haiphong experiences a tropical monsoon climate with four distinct and significantly varying seasons, making the area architecturally challenging and fascinating. The region’s intense sun conditions play a crucial role in the exterior design of the Green Eye project.🌱 .

Soft finishes in FLEXHab 🌑

For the interior of SAGA's newest lunar habitat we have used beautiful Alcantara material to create a comfortable and tactile environment in the habitat's galley and laboratory. Alcantara's technology combines performance and aesthetics and provides a durable finish for this multi-functional space.

Over the past few weeks, SAGA has been busy sewing and upholstering this fantastic material to create bespoke interior elements for the habitat.

FLEXHab is an analog lunar habitat for Moon mission training, designed to create a healthy living space in extreme environments.

Finally. Our new analog habitat is built! It’s the world’s tallest 3D-printed polymer structure at 7 meters tall.

The shell is topology optimized and the corrugated surface is generated to withstand the specific forces the habitat would experience on the Moon.

Designed to support a crew of two astronauts comfortably for 90 days on the surface of the Moon. 6 of these towers fit inside a single starship rocket.

Our team has worked day and night to bring this to live. From first sketch to final printed habitat in just 9 months.

We shot a video last summer when we were back in Greenland to pack down our habitat.

Here we answer one of the questions we get asked the most:

"How did you stay safe and warm during the coldest winter nights in our LUNARK habitat during windchill of -41 C?"

We did this thanks to Armacell, our favorite insulation provider.

Last year when planning the LUNARK mission, we realized that we needed a container - not only one for shipping the habitat from Denmark to Greenland but one that would have to overwinter in the Arctic. We knew that renting a shipping container for more than a year would be a great expense on top of all the others.

We called DanContainer A/S to ask them if they would be able to lend us one at a good price. Luckily, they found what we were doing interesting and decided to let us use a container free of charge for a year.

The container we borrowed has since seen the habitat being built in Copenhagen, overcome the mercilessness of the North Atlantic Ocean, stood strong on the coast of Moriusaq a thousand kilometers north of the Arctic Circle for more than a year, and finally crossed the ocean once again to Denmark. It must be one of the most adventurous containers in the world.

The next mission for the container will be delivering the habitat safely to the Danish Architecture Centre for our upcoming exhibition.

Dancontainer has been an absolutely central part of the LUNARK mission which quite literally wouldn’t have been possible without the container. To everyone at Dancontainer, thank you for your contribution to the LUNARK mission🙏🏻
