SUBURBAN RIVERSIDE HOUSE | NGOAI O HOUSE
Nestled along the tranquil Day River, just a short drive from the heart of Hanoi, Ngoại ô House embodies the architectural philosophy of “slow living – harmony with nature” that defines VOA Architecture.
Designed and built by Architect Vo Van Thang and his team, this one-story residence was created for Mr. Chiến’s family — people who long for a peaceful retreat deeply connected with nature, yet refined in its modernity.
Occupying a 1,000m² plot in An Khanh (Hanoi), the house reflects the essence of a modern garden villa, completely open to its surroundings and oriented toward the river and garden.
Its black-painted steel structure combined with full-height glass walls blurs the boundary between inside and out, creating an atmosphere of lightness and transparency.
A flat roof finished with dark slate tiles emphasizes clean modern lines while providing excellent thermal performance suited to the northern Vietnamese climate.
The residence is surrounded by a naturally designed landscape — a koi pond, a Japanese lotus pond, and winding stone pathways meandering through lush greenery.
Sunlight filters through tree canopies, reflecting on the water’s surface, turning the garden into a living painting that shifts its tone from dawn to dusk.
Morning mist hovers above the pond, afternoon light glides over the terrace, and at night, the garden glows under warm lights — a serene retreat in perfect rhythm with nature.
A defining element of the design is the wide veranda, a transitional space between home and nature.
It becomes a place of quiet rituals — where the family gathers for tea, watches the sunset over the river, listens to the breeze moving through the trees, or simply enjoys the stillness of the moment.
Architecturally, Ngoại ô House follows the Modern Minimalist aesthetic, but with a distinct Vietnamese warmth.
Natural materials — wood, stone, glass, steel, and greenery — are composed with restraint and balance, forming a space that is both timeless and emotionally grounding.
Every line, texture, and proportion seeks harmony — creating not just a house, but a living dialogue between people and nature.
For VOA Architecture, architecture is not merely form and function — it is a language of life, where light, air, and human presence intertwine.
Ngoại ô House is thus more than a suburban residence; it is a dream of serenity by the river — a place to slow down, to breathe, and to belong.
