VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) and VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) are essentially the same HVAC technology, with just a branding difference:
VRV is the term trademarked by Daikin.
VRF is the generic term used by other manufacturers like LG, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, etc.
What is VRF/VRV?
It’s an advanced HVAC system designed for energy efficiency, zoning, and comfort control. These systems:
Use a single outdoor unit connected to multiple indoor units.
Control the amount of refrigerant flowing to each indoor unit based on demand.
Allow simultaneous heating and cooling in different zones (in heat recovery systems).
Types:
1. Heat Pump VRF – All zones either cool or heat at a given time.
2. Heat Recovery VRF – Some zones can cool while others heat, at the same time.
Benefits:
Energy-efficient and quiet.
Excellent for buildings with multiple zones.
Space-saving (less ductwork).
