Meet Eddie: The Echidna Who Stole Our Hearts

"At only 200 grams, Eddie was a tiny puggle needing round-the-clock care. Today he's almost 1kg and settling into his new outdoor home."

Sometimes the most rewarding stories come from the places you least expect.

Recently we received a wonderful update from a wildlife rehabilitation group we have been supporting with discounted products, introducing us to Eddie – a young echidna who has been hand-raised from a tiny puggle after arriving into care.

When Eddie first came into care, he weighed just 200 grams, a small and vulnerable little echidna needing specialised support and around-the-clock attention. Fast forward to today and Eddie is now approaching 1kg, which is a huge milestone in his journey.

Like all good echidnas, Eddie also has a few personality traits of his own.

He is apparently very shy and prefers life away from the spotlight. Most of his days are spent buried deep in mulch or tucked safely away in his den box. Wildlife carers tell us that getting a photo of Eddie "out and about" isn't always easy.

But this Mother's Day, Eddie decided to make a rare daytime appearance and gave his carers a special surprise.

As part of Eddie's next stage of rehabilitation, he has now moved into a larger outdoor enclosure. Interestingly, this home originally started life as one of Global Roto-Moulding's 5000L Aquaculture Tanks — designed for aquaculture applications but now finding a completely unexpected role helping Australia's native wildlife.

Seeing one of our products adapted into an echidna rehabilitation enclosure certainly wasn't something we had anticipated, but it reminds us that sometimes the best solutions are found in unexpected places.

More importantly, this story isn't really about tanks.

It's about the incredible volunteers and wildlife carers who dedicate enormous amounts of time, effort and care to giving injured and vulnerable native animals a second chance. Their passion and commitment often happen quietly behind the scenes and deserve recognition.

To Eddie and all the amazing wildlife carers out there — thank you for the work you do for Australia's native wildlife.

We'll be keeping an eye out for more Eddie updates… although judging by his personality, we suspect he'll still be spending most of his time hidden in the mulch.

The framework for our new 100kW solar system on shed 1 has now been fully installed, with mounting structures ready for the solar panels to go up. 50kW to go on Shed 2☀️🏭
