TODAY, JUNE 10TH: POPE LEO XIV INAUGURATES THE ICONIC CROSS.

The structure in this photograph is the Cross of the Tower of Jesus Christ at the Sagrada Família basilica in Barcelona, Spain.

The official inauguration of this tower is scheduled today, June 10, 2026, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the death of the basilica's original architect, Antoni Gaudí (June 10, 1926.)

This massive, three-dimensional, four-armed cross alone, is measuring 17 meters in height – equivalent to about 3 storey building was designed to crown the basilica's central and tallest tower. Clad in glass and white enameled ceramic.

Pope Leo XIV will be presiding over a Solemn Mass to bless this monumental achievement.

A comparative image, demonstrating what the Muizenberg Beachfront Upgrade Project looked like yesterday, versus what it will look like on completion. Sand will cover most of the bottom section of the stepped revetment.

The project has been designed with longevity in mind, and is expected to last a minimum of 50 years. The extra steps account for potential beach changes in the future.

We’re proud to share that DK Architects were appointed by the City of Cape Town for upgrades of the iconic Greenmarket Square — one of the city’s most vibrant and historic public spaces.

Phase 1 is already complete, with the successful renovation of the public bathrooms, marking the first step in enhancing the visitor experience.

Up next is Phase 2, currently in pre-feasibility stage. This phase will explore key improvements including traffic flow, heritage considerations, paving, trees, lighting, and new street furniture — all aimed at revitalising the square while respecting its rich history.

We’re excited to be collaborating with OVP as our appointed landscape architects on this project.

The Potsdam Interchange site presents a unique opportunity for the City of Cape Town to respond to several key challenges, including its carbon neutrality goals for 2030 and 2050, job creation, food security, and broader sustainable development objectives.

DK Architects, as lead consultant and architect, has developed the concept in collaboration with the City of Cape Town’s Urban Sustainability Unit and a multidisciplinary team of sub-consultants.

The proposed Boxyard Project acts as a “knuckle” between farming, waste management, and transport. It is designed as a flexible structure made up of concrete bases and a steel frame that supports standard shipping containers arranged in a U-shaped configuration on a previously disturbed brownfield site.

The building will primarily support urban agriculture and related activities, with accommodation arranged over three levels.

DK Architects is proud to announce our recent appointment by the City of Cape Town for the upgrade of Maitland Square.

Strategically located next to the M5 Freeway and within the city’s inner urban core, Maitland forms part of a thriving economic corridor and continues to attract significant investment. Recent developments in the area include call centres, social housing, and a range of urban regeneration initiatives, reflecting its growing appeal as a dynamic and desirable precinct.

The project team will be led by Khalied Jacobs of Jakupa Urban Design, and we look forward to delivering an innovative and engaging urban and landscape design.

We look forward to sharing updates as the project progresses.

DKA is excited to see construction commence on the transformation of an underutilised portion of an existing warehouse in Stellenbosch into a vibrant, future-focused workspace. Responding to the challenges of a large, deep floorplate, the design introduces a striking internal light well and landscaped garden—bringing natural light, energy, and a strong biophilic connection into the heart of the offices and boardrooms.

The 1,430 m² expansion spans two levels and delivers a dynamic mix of offices, workshops, laboratories, and support spaces, complemented by a staff canteen that opens outward to create an engaging, people-centric environment. This project reflects DKA’s commitment to unlocking value in existing assets while creating inspiring, high-performance spaces tailored for modern business.
