The Build it Garden Centre in Bushman's River commenced business in September, 2013. Over the past 3 years the selection of garden plants, pots and other garden goods have steadily been increased. With the new extensions currently in progress, it will be the biggest garden centre between Port Elizabeth and East London. It is run as part of Mega Build it that opened in 2007, but managed as a separa

te business, with its focus being on best prices and a quality service. With unlimited land available and having our own dam from which we source our water used in the garden centre, our ability to further expand the operation is limitless. We carry a wide selection of plants, pots garden furniture and other garden goodies and strive continually to expand our range bringing in new cost effective merchandise.

Our herb of the month is Thyme:

Planting and caring for your thyme requires very little attention-water only in very dry conditions and feed sparingly. A good mulch with organic matter will provide most of their feeding needs.

Thyme is virtually free of pests and disease. Its an excellent plant for growing in containers,water to keep the soil moist and feed with liquid plant food.

Medicinal uses-
Thymol the essential oil in thyme can be used as an antiseptic. Its also an active ingredient in mouthwashes such as Listerine. Before antibiotics thyme was used to medicate bandages. Infusing the herb on water it can be used for coughs and bronchitis.

Lastly, Thyme retains its flavour when dried better than many other herbs.

A beautiful Bonsai - the art of taking a simple plant or tree and turning it into a reminder of nature's beauty within a confined space.

Here are some tips on how to care for your bonsai tree from our resident Horticulturalist, Leanie, with thanks:

1. Water every day 10ml for medium size tree
2. Take it out every morning between 9-11 for two hours (remember its a tree and therefore needs some sunlight)
3. Feed with a liquid feeding such as Hortisol once a month
4. Never trim in the growing season (August - December)
