Today I will share the main soil types with you.
There are three main types of soil
Loam Soil
Sandy Soil
Clay Soil
What are the different soils made up of?
Loam Soil - A mixture of soils that is perfect for growing plants. It is a combination of soil, normally bits of clay, silt and sand. Loam soils are best for plant growth because sand, silt, and clay together provide desirable characteristics. The roots feed on the minerals in the suspended water.
Sandy Soil - Made up of 40% sand and less than 20% silt and clay. Sandy soil is easier to work with than clay soils. It is lighter and doesn't compact. It is also easy to dig in or mix with compost. Most flowering plants benefit from the fact that it is well drained.
Clay Soil - Is made up of many minerals that deposit together and over time it forms a hardened clay deposit. Because of its density, clay soil does a good job of holding onto both moisture and nutrients. It is recommended using slow release mineral fertilisers such as rock phosphate and gypsum to build soil fertility.
