What do you think of the draft water amendment by law: I think this:
1. The amendment reflects a massive government overreach in that it seeks to limit the initiatives of the ratepayer and homeowner and makes virtually everything to do with water saving subject to government control.
2. The amendment will add to the cost of water saving and place an ill advised extra financial burden on the ratepayer and homeowner.

The registration of plumbers with the City at first seems a good idea but the practical implications will be disastrous for small business and artisans. The draft is silent on the cost of this registration and might put many local small business plumbers out of business. The requirement that plumbing alterations may only be done by council registered plumbers will increase the cost of water saving to the homeowner. The council registered plumber will have to recover the cost of the added administrative and compliance requirements from the home owner. Why can’t plumbing be subject to the usual inspections currently in place.

The City government taking control of underground water on private property is an overreach. How long before the City government prescribes the kind of plants that would be permissible on private properties.

The cost of having architects plans for JOJO tanks, scrutiny fees and other ancillary costs will increase the cost of water capturing and saving to the homeowner.
