Edge Church, together with the Friends of Sunnyside Park, will be making several irrigation improvements at Sunnyside Park from 1 June, focused on the play area and garden beds.

These upgrades are aimed at better stewarding this shared community space and making ongoing maintenance more manageable for the volunteer team who care for the gardens throughout the year.

The work is being scheduled during winter while the park is used less frequently, allowing the grass time to recover well ahead of summer. Some temporary disruption to sections of the park may occur during this time, and we appreciate the community’s patience while the work is underway.

We’re also always grateful for additional volunteers willing to assist with watering during the summer months.

⚠️ With the current heavy rainfall, we urge all residents to remain alert and take extra precautions to keep themselves and their families safe.

🔹 On the roads: Drive slower than usual and keep a safe following distance. Wet roads reduce traction and increase stopping time. Avoid driving through flooded areas. Watch out for potholes that formed.
🔹 At home: Check that gutters and drains are clear to prevent flooding. Keep emergency numbers on hand and ensure you have basic supplies in case of power outages.
🔹 Flood risks: Stay away from fast-moving water, stormwater drains, and rivers. Never allow children to play near flooded areas.
🔹 Electricity safety: Be cautious of exposed electrical outlets or cables in wet areas. Do not touch electrical equipment if you are standing in water.
🔹 Community awareness: Look out for elderly neighbours or vulnerable residents who may need assistance during severe weather.

Criminals pose as bin scratchers on rubbish collection day, using the opportunity to scout properties for potential theft. Please be extra vigilant on collection days and help keep our community safe by following these tips:

🔹 Keep an eye out for any unusual behaviour around your bins or those of your neighbours.

🔹 Avoid placing them out the previous day.

🔹 Report suspicious activity to your local Neighbourhood Watch or SAPS. Even small details can help prevent crime.

🔹 Stay connected with your neighbours in WhatsApp street groups and inform each other of any concerns.

With temperatures expected to reach 40°C this week, conditions will be extremely dangerous for animals and people exposed to the heat.

🐎 Cart-horses should NOT be on the road during this heatwave. Working horses in these extreme temperatures can suffer severe dehydration, exhaustion, and heat stress. Forcing horses to pull carts in these conditions is animal cruelty.

Residents are advised to prepare for extreme heat over the next few days, with temperatures expected to climb well above normal levels.

🌡 Forecasted Max Temperatures (YR.NO):
• Monday (9 Mar): 36°C
• Tuesday (10 Mar): 40°C
• Wednesday (11 Mar): 40°C
• Thursday (12 Mar): 37°C
• Friday (13 Mar): 28°C

🔥 Peak heat is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, reaching around 40°C.

⚠️ Safety Tips:
• Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated 💧
