(Part 2)

Paving preparation, Procedures and processes.

Once the base is cleared of all the roots, 50 - 75 mm compacted with base course for medium to heavy traffic areas.

Add a topping of 20 - 40 mm dry mix of sand & cement using a rake or screeding straight edge.

Mark out the area to be paved with string lines and pegs, adjusting the hight according to the average thickness of the pavers.

Use an angel grinder with all the necessary safety equipment in order to cut the slabs

Ensure the paving is level & the fall is correct during laying, do this using a spirit level & straight edge.

Before grouting the pavers, it's important to to check & do all the necessary adjustments for hight, size & leveling to ensure a even unbroken patten. This may require lifting & swapping of pavers to achieve a regular grout gap of 5 - 20 mm, depending on paver choice.
It is very costly to remove & relay pavers that have major hight difference once the area is grouted.

Keep in mind that the pavers are meant to simulate natural environment and resemble real stone, there will be variations & no perfectly straight lines & surfaces.

Paving Preparation, procedure, and process.

(Part 1)

Various contractors have & use different methods when installing paving how ever we have found that the below mentioned outline can be considered as a general outline of the process and factors involved.

Before starting your project, it is recommended to evaluate the existing ground and consider the following important factors:
- The existing ground conditions.
- Finished paved surface levels.
-Expansion joints, drainage of paved area correct paver choice for expected usage.
-Is the area going to be a high traffic, commercial or residential foot traffic area.

This can be used to deduce what type of pavers, materials and equipment are required for that specific ground and approximate the duration of the project .

Once all the above mentioned factors have been considered carefully then move on to the second phase.

-Gather the necessary materials, equipment and pavers.
-Clear the area to be paved, remove all vegetables & topsoil, consolidating & leveling the ground accordingly to the required depth.
-When laying pavers adjacent to o a house, ensure the top level is below the damp - proof course + - 150 mm.
- When Installing next to a lawn, make sure the finished paving level is just below that of the lawn.
- Ensure that the paved area when finished has a slight slope to disperse water & ensure easy run off, the ideal fall is 4 cm - 5 cm in every three Meyers away from the house or building.
