Echo Road | The ambitions for the design were steered by the natural beauty and to treat the building as if it was a fragment that had broken off from the rock-face of Elsies Peak and landed a little further down.

Our only design constraint from our client, was that there were no rigid hard square geometries employed in the design, preferring more softer, organic free flowing forms which resonated strongly with us.

Echo Road | At night the owners will be able to experience the vast night sky glistening on the ocean. This we have tried to bring into the building with the water feature causing glittering light patterns on the concrete forms.

Swipe to see how when standing on the top entertainment level the owners are ale to enjoy an intimate undisturbed relationship between the vast False Bay coastline to the front and the mountain peak to the back.

Echo Road | Section (have a zoom to see some of the design informants 👀)

The ambitions for the design were steered by the natural beauty and to treat the building as of it was a fragment that had broken off from the rock-face of Elsies Peak and landed a little further down.

On the top entertainment level the organic roof lifts toward the back not only to provide views toward Elsies Peak but also to allow Northern sun to enter the space.

By creating a flat, open courtyard area on the mountain side we accommodated the prevailing summer winds which passively cools down the building in the warmer months.

At the far end of Fish Hoek, perched under the rock face of Elsies Peak, is the unique location for this unique project. Challenged by the incredible beauty on offer from the highest point on the site, we took the bold decision to raise the building as high as possible and to set it back as deep as....

Echo Road | One of the only design constraints from our client was that there were no rigid hard square geometries employed in the design.

No. 8

The climatic benefits of the courtyard areas, tempered with the use of water, which not only provide a diverse visual backdrop to the internal living areas, but importantly allow for the free-flowing movement of air which is cooled by the courtyard spaces in the summer months to flow freely through the internal spaces. In the winter periods, the opposite is true where the courtyard spaces allow for the deep pe*******on of the warm sun into the living areas, moderating the extreme seasonal temperatures.

A system of passive heating and cooling that acknowledges lessons learnt from the vernacular Cape Dutch architecture of the region.
