What factors decide the cost of Paving?
You can buy paving from a hardware store or a brick wholesaler. The price of paving bricks depends on the following:
Thickness of bricksBrick colour and styleBeneficiated bricksTransport cost
Thickness of bricks
Standard paving bricks are about 50mm thick and are the cheapest option. You can expect to pay around R20 per square metre more for every 10mm in thickness.
Standard bricks are fine for low-traffic residential areas, but commercial paving might require 80mm thick bricks.
Brick colour and style
Standard grey bricks are the cheapest option. Coloured pavers will be around R15 per square metre more expensive than grey ones.
If you want a special style brick, you could pay from R160 to R180 per square metre extra.
Transport cost
Paving bricks are bulky and very heavy. This makes the transport cost high and the more bricks you order, the higher the cost. If you are within a 100 km radius of your brick supplier, you should pay between R1200 and R5700 in total for the delivery.
Determining the transport cost can be complex as a crane might be needed to offload them. The cost also depends on how far the truck must travel.
