Fire Safety Facts About IsoBoard
Greetings from IsoBoard!
Did you know that IsoBoard's fire performance is often misunderstood?
At IsoBoard, life safety is our priority. That's why our products are manufactured using high-quality fire retardants and are extensively tested to internationally recognised standards.
If you need technical advice, fire test reports, or would like to compare fire performance with other insulation products, our team is here to help.
We're happy to provide factual information backed by independent testing and help clear up common misconceptions.
All technical documentation and test information is available on our website: www.isoboard.com.
Our information is based on both large- and small-scale fire testing conducted in accordance with EN 13501-1 and SANS 428 testing protocols
How Does IsoBoard React to Fire?
Although IsoBoard is a combustible material, it has been engineered to provide enhanced fire performance.Key characteristics include:
• Self-extinguishing properties that help prevent continued burning once the ignition source is removed.
• Very limited flame spread during the growth stage of a fire.
• Very limited heat release.
• No flaming droplets during the first 10 minutes of fire exposure—an important life safety benefit.
• Combustion gases (smoke) with lower toxicity than many commonly encountered combustion sources.
It is important to note that holding a lighter to a small sample is not a recognised fire test and does not reflect the product's performance in accredited fire testing
Fire Rating & Safety Compliance
IsoBoard has been tested to recognised international and South African standards, achieving:
• EN 13501-1 Classification: B-s1,d0
• SANS 428 Classification: B/B1/2 SP H&V
Independent testing confirms that IsoBoard performs at the top of its class when compared with similar insulation products, including PIR and other XPS insulation materials
