BEST TIME TO START A BUILDING PROJECT
Many ask, “When is the best time to start building?” There’s no perfect moment, but there _is_ a smart time—one that saves money, reduces stress, and avoids delays.
1. When You Have a Clear Plan:
- Know _what_ you want to build.
- Know your budget range.
- Know the stage you’ll stop at for now.
- Know who will oversee the work.
Starting without a plan is a major reason projects stall.
2.When You Can Comfortably Begin the Foundation:
- You don’t need a huge sum; just enough to handle foundation work without borrowing or rushing.
- Foundation steps: setting out → excavation → concrete → blockwork to DPC → backfilling → oversite concrete.
A solid base lets you continue gradually.
3. During the Dry Season:
- Easier excavation, better compaction, faster curing, less risk of trench collapse, fewer rain‑related delays.
- With good planning, work can still proceed in the rainy season.
4. When Material Prices Are Stable for You:
- Start when you can manage current prices rather than waiting for them to fall.
- Delay often means higher material costs, higher labour charges, and more rent spent.
- Starting early lets you lock in progress, even in phases.
5.When You Have Professional Guidance:
- Engage an engineer, architect, builder, quantity surveyor, or surveyor early.
- They help avoid costly mistakes, control material use, ensure quality, and protect your investment.
Bottom line: The smartest time to start is when you have a clear plan, can fund the foundation, prefer dry weather, can handle current material costs, and have professional support.
