Letting lawn grow tall and cutting as short as possible is the reason for stressed grass which recovers slower and is more susceptible to problems.

Lawn should be cut regularly with around 1/3 of the length taken off(as you can see from left to right below) to ensure healthy green stress free lawn all year round.
