Our favourite full moon 🌝 😁

3 January ... the first full moon for 2026. Moonrise tonight is around 7.50pm.

According to the South African Heritage Full Moon list the January moon is called Mantis Moon, named after the mysterious and beautiful Praying Mantis insect, which features prominently in the stories of the San and the Khoi.

A friend sent me this awesome photo of her daughter Jasmine, proudly holding a praying mantis — and just look at that smile! 💚
There’s something truly heartwarming about moments like this — when youngsters take the time to slow down, notice, and appreciate the smaller creatures that share our world.

Seeing Jasmine’s curiosity and connection with nature reminds me why I love what I do.
If I can help inspire even a few more people to look closer and appreciate the life thriving in their gardens — then that’s a win. 🌱
