Meet Athini Maqokolo, the 21-year-old sensation making waves in the PSL with AmaZulu FC.
Born in Flagstaff and raised in Port Shepstone, Athini’s football journey started on the streets of the Eastern Cape. He credits his development to Coach Xolani “Ice” Nkasa at Young Chiefs and Earl Bishop at SuperSport United Soccer Schools.
His professional rise began with Thohoyandou FC in the ABC Motsepe League. From there, he moved to JDR Stars in the 2023-2024 NFD season, then to FC Ravens in the 2024-2025 ABC Motsepe League, before earning his move to AmaZulu FC for the 2024-2025 PSL campaign.
Athini has already tasted silverware, winning Khabba Cup championships with Sinenkani FC in 2021-2022 and Bizana FC in 2022-2023. He also featured for Two For Joy in the 2024-2025 season.
In under 10 games for AmaZulu, he’s netted 4 goals and picked up 1 Man of the Match award. This season alone, he’s added 4 more Man of the Match awards to his name.
