Our tree feature for this week is the Leopard Tree. It is scientifically known as the Libidibia ferrea, it's common name is Brazilian ironwood or morado. It is a tree found in Brazil and Bolivia in a location with a wet, subtropical climate

The Leopard tree grows to 15 metres tall or even higher. It has an open crown and its groups of small, thin leaflets provide light to moderate summer shade. The tree also offers panicle spikes of sunny yellow flowers at the stem tips. Its wood is often used for making fingerboards for electric basses and guitars. The wood may also be used for flooring, fancy furniture, and handgun grips.

Leopard tree wood is valuable for furniture, fence posts, pillars and beams, it can also be used for firewood and producing good quality charcoal.

THE GENERAL SHERMAN TREE
(Sequoiadendron giganteum)
This giant sequoia tree is located at Sequoia National park, California.
It is the largest tree in the world, measured by volume.
It's height about 275 feet (83.8 metres) tall,,, with a diameter of 36 feet (11 metres) at the base,,, 103 feet (31.3 metres) in circumference,,, total volume of trunk is 52,500 cubic feet, and weighs more than 6,000 tons.
It is estimated to be between 2300-2700 years old.
