Our Story

Thrive is about restoring personal freedom, sovereignty and self-sufficiency to everyone. As society has evolved to the capitalist model (where money flows upwards in a pyramid) the average man and woman has given up their sovereignty to ideas such as money, the corporation, work-life balance, treadmills, office towers and traffic. Everyone has to work harder, faster and longer just to keep up with each other, and with inflation. If you don’t, you fall down the pyramid. If you do better, you rise to the top. I guess the view is better there. But are we any happier?

Life was less stressful when we were closer to the earth and further from the office and traffic. Thrive offers a peaceful retreat from the madness of the modern world. We teach food, water and energy sustainability, produce fantastic organic food from our homestead and look after animals that have been ill-treated by humans. Hogsback is itself an idyllic mountain paradise, with streams, waterfalls and old-growth forest providing the perfect opportunity for forest bathing, or “Shinrin Yoku” as the Japanese would say.

Our experiential centre showcases living food, energy and water sytems, and serves as an educational haven for those interested in sustainable building and food systems design. Our grey water and energy systems are bio-compatible and 100% sustainable, meaning we give back more to the earth than we take out.
